Maurice Lucas, Portland Trail Blazers forward club won the competition during the NBA 1977, died after fighting bladder cancer suffered.

Lucas died at the age of 58 years. Former players who also once was an assistant coach at his club had passed away at his home in Portland on Sunday (31/10/2010).

Lucas has played for 14 seasons in the American Basketball Association competition which in 1976 changed its name to the National Basketball Association (NBA).

After joining Portland in 1976, he brought the club straight NBA win the competition in 1977 with a record average of 20.2 points and 11.2 rebounds.

After retiring in 1988, his jersey number 20 is no longer used. He was then a career as an assistant coach at Portland until diagnosed with bladder cancer last year.

In addition to Portland, Lucas had to strengthen the New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, and Los Angeles Lakers. He recorded a record average of 14.4 points and 8.8 rebounds.

Lucas is survived by his wife, Pamela, and two sons and one daughter.
